AWS Weldmex moves forward with original dates of June 2-4, 2009 at the Cintermex in Monterrey, Mexico

Miami, Fla., May 7: The American Welding Society, the Precision Metalforming Association, the Fabricators and Manufacturers Association, and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers announced today that their show in Mexico, scheduled for June 2-4, 2009 in Monterrey, Mexico, will continue as planned.

The Mexican government announced that business is back to normal after closing much of the country for the holiday weekend, through May 5. The World Health Organization (WHO) has stated that the H1N1 virus, which is treatable with existing drugs, appears less severe than seasonal flu in most cases.*

“We are hosting a press conference on Thursday, May 14, in conjunction with the government of Nuevo Leon, to reiterate the president’s message that Mexico is open for business, and the daily routine is returning to normal,” stated Chuck Cross, show manager for the combined event. “Our event has a $10 million economic impact on this region. The Mexican government as well as the business community have given us their unqualified support. Their representatives have stated that they will work in conjunction with our associations and the media to ensure a successful event.”

Over 7,000 attendees are expected to visit this event.

“With the added exposure and support of key government officials, we may attract an even larger crowd”, Cross added. The 2009 event is an international event, with exhibitors participating from the U.S., Canada, Germany, Italy, Spain, Argentina and China.

*“WHO is not recommending travel restrictions related to the outbreak of the influenza A(H1N1) virus.”
